TTC: Tullamarine Technical College (Tulla Tech), (2019)
Tullamarine Technical College is a speculative project situated at Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne’s north-west, engaging with the construction of a new suburb on the existing long-term airport car parking as a means to channel the opportunities offered through a direct rail link between the airport and CBD.
Abiding by the generic office typology, and 3.6-metre car parking grid, TTC focuses on generating a generous architecture through public amenity, shifting our existing understanding of how a commercial property engages with the broader site and the public.
TTC’s design takes cues from the distinct and often overlooked industrial qualities of Melbourne’s peripheral suburbs, utilising it as a means of both highlighting the buildings programmatic functions and how it transforms with the 24-hour cycle of both the airport and city
